"A Gull On The Roof"

The forecast was wrong and the day dawned bright. I decided to make the most of it and went out with the camera before breakfast. As I left the garden I heard a squawk and saw this gull on the the roof of our neighbour's house. Not quite sure but I think it's a herring gull.

I immediately thought of Derek Tangye's book, "A Gull On The Roof", it was the first of his so-called Minack Chronicles. Mr Q and I used to stay at the Tangye family home Glendorgal in Cornwall, turned into a hotel by his brother Nigel. Mr Q used to crew Nigel's yacht, Spray Of Glendorgal.

Nigel wrote quite movingly of the death of a gannet in a storm in his book, "Facing The Sea."
