Poppies

The poppy is the state flower of California. March through May are peak months for viewing them. In some areas the hills turn yellow-gold because of the dense growth of flowers. Another name for the bloom is "cups of gold." These grow in my neighbor's yard outside the horse corral. They tend to close when exposed to cold, shade or wind and open up again in the sun.
