New shoots

These tiny small plants are the result of my latest experiment with seeds. When I'm travelling I not only collect jewellery but also seeds! These shoots are (I hope) canna collected in the gardens of the convict museum in Tasmania last year. I wasn't sure if they would germinate since the seasons are reversed here in Sweden - it's autumn now in Tasmania.

As usual I googled how to help them grow and found out that they needed scarification - it was necessary to file away a bit of their very hard seed case - and then soak them in water. It seems to have succeeded!

It would have been far quicker to buy a plant here in Sweden - but it's more fun to grow your own!
