Mini Ice Sculpture
It's spring break for the boys, but not for Mia. As we were driving her to preschool, I noticed that all of the snow piles were suddenly looking very...well... spiky (and also dirty.) Upon closer inspection, I realized that some of the ice/snow seemed to defy gravity. As the snow underneath melted away, pieces of ice were left precariously teetering on thin icy spires. The clouds holding the temperature at a constant were the only hope these tiny ice chips had. I knew I had to get a macro photo before they melted down to saturate the Earth and green-up the pending grass. After long months of below zero temps, air that stung to breathe, I was now embracing the end. The brown snow that looked depressing moments ago, was now a beautiful part of the coming season. So, despite squawks from the back seat, I pulled the van over, crouched near the pile of dirty snow and captured this swan. Hanging in the air, waiting to fly. Abstract like a changing cloud and as beautiful (to me) as a blossom. ... I'm kind of weird that way.
