A Long Way Down for The Book Thief
Friday and a double bill of movies leading to more mucking about with Lego!
'The Book Thief' was first as I'm sure it's leaving cinemas soon and I'd not found the time to see it. It was a rather wonderful, if emotionally unsettling, film - based on Markus Zusak's novel it has some rather unsettling themes to deal with but they were presented well on film and the three young leads were all good choices - plus there was the bonus of Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson as Sophie Nélisse's parents.
'A Long Way Down' was second and is new, so will be around for a bit, and is also based on a book, this time the novel by Nick Hornby. Again it's not the happiest of themes, the main characters all being suicidal at the start, but it was a well put together film with much of the credit going to the four leads - Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Imogen Poots and Aaron Paul. Reviews have not been great for the film so far, and it's not going to set the world on fire, but it was a surprisingly good watch for a Friday night.
