The Lighthouse

I had a day off work today thanks to TOIL build up, so I decided to go on a one woman adventure to Glasgow despite the promise if downpours of rain forecast.

After a relaxing train ride watching the mixture of lovely countryside and a warts-and-all view points along the Edinburgh to Glasgow train line (oh how I wish my eyes were a camera at times!), I arrived in a rainy Glasgow.

After taking shelter in some shops and aimlessly and with little interest in looking at clothes, I decided to stick with my original plan to go visit The Lighthouse

It's situated just off Buchanan Street and down an unlikely looking alley and is the home if exhibition spaces showcasing Scotland's design and architectural talents. The building itself is steeped in the city's history with strong links to Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The Helical Staircase in the Mackintosh Exhibit was one of my main reasons for coming (I have a fascination with spiral staircases and quirky front doors...) but sadly it was closed for 'works'.

I really enjoyed all the other spaces, especially the "It's Not Very Nice That - Politics in Graphic Design" exhibit and the views of the Glasgow skyline from the 6th floor observation deck.

After getting my culture fix, I went in search of Bibi's Bakery, Glasgow to buy some yummy treats for K. and I as today marked us having been together 3.5 years - happy days!! :)

As K., was in uni today, we met up afterwards and also went for dinner at TGI Fridays's (apparently the one in Edinburgh should be open in 9 weeks after the fire last year and subsequent repairs).

By the time I got home, I was very glad to take my wellies off after all my wandering around but I felt I'd had one of the best days :)
