Bridge of Tanar

Today found us heading up Royal Deeside to find the Glen Tanar Estate (Thanks Helen). As we crossed the Bridge o’ Ess passed the Tower of Ess onto the Private Estate road, I was informed, “if I knew we where coming here I colud have told you the way” (Having followed the Sat Nav!!). It appears Karen brought her eldest here for Scout Camps, and later came regularly to the Stables and Riding school.

So the first stop was at the end of the private road to look at the stables and facilities. Then back down to the visitor’s center. And I for a walk around the Juniper path trail with the dog (it’s ok Jo its only half a mile round trip hi).

So it is here I took this picture of the Bridge of Tanar, which is a footpath route that leads from the car park area to the visitor’s center.

Sitting in 25,000 acres of beautiful landscape, situated in the heart of Royal Deeside and within the spectacular Cairngorms National Park, Glen Tanar stretches over woodland, heather clad moors and offers some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery. Glen Tanar is also home of Scotland’s most easterly Munro, Mount Keen. It is a challenging 14 mile round trip to the summit.

Wander amongst ancient forests of Scots pine, silver birch and oak or trace the Water of Tanar from Mount Keen to where it meets the River Dee. Look out for roe deer, red squirrels and if you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of a golden eagle.

The Braeloine Visitor Centre on the Glen Tanar Estate is fully equipped with visitor facilities, car parking and a full-time ranger service. The rangers can provide specific advice on the best spots to watch salmon.
