PELLUCID
Set my alarm for 11am - gave me plenty of time to catch the bus at 1.15pm to go to Newcastle. Newcastle United were at home to Crystal Palace - kick off 3pm.
Woke up this morning to find it wasn't morning.... it was actually 1.12pm in the afternoon. Shot out of bed - slight exaggeration there - and quickly got ready, fed the cats, emptied the litter trays and scoooted out to the bus stop and caught the bus at 1.45pm. Managed to get to the football ground at 2.40pm - in good time for kick off. But still half asleep.
The first half of the match was boring ( but I didn't nod off ) and the score was 0 - 0 at half time. Newcastle had more chances to score in the second half but didn't .... until 4 mins into extra time when Papis Cisse got the ball into the net for Newcastle. 50 thousand or so Newcastle fans breathed a huge sigh of relief - relief that Newcastle had won the match and relief that Cisse had finally scored after a long goal drought.
Did a bit of shopping afterwards in M & S and Waitrose. I like to linger in town a bit after the match as the buses are always jam packed if I try to go home straight away.
Neil played rugby today - he's suffering this evening - a bit battered and bruised - and his team lost.
Today DDW's Forum Challenge word is Pellucid - meaning admitting the passage of light; transparent or translucent. Not sure if this glass sculpture fits the bill but its translucent - I think.
The statue is outside The Gate complex which isn't far from the football ground in Newcastle. The Gate has a cinema and many bars and restaurants.
This sculpture is called Ellipsis Eclipses by Danny Lane and was commissioned to complement the distinctive glass facade of The Gate entertainment complex. ‘Ellipsis Eclipses’ is 12 metres high and is reminiscent of the mast of a tall ship. The name is a play on words based on its form, which is derived from the intersection of two circles (or ellipses) like the eclipse of the moon or sun.
