...Clapham. Maritime House was built in 1939 as the headquarters of the National Union of Seamen - NUS. It remained the union’s headquarters until the merger in 1990 with the National Union of Railwaymen - NUR. The merged union is the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers - RMT. RMT represents more than 80,000 members in almost every sector of the transport industry from mainline and underground rail to shipping and offshore, buses and road freight.

Bob Crow was general secretary of the RMT from 2002 until his death on 11th March 2014 at the age of 52. Bob Crow’s funeral is on Monday 24th March 2014.
