A chair by a window
I wasn't feeling my best today with a very sore throat that was making it really hard to breathe and just generally feeling weary so I decided that fresh air may do me good (see, I do listen to my mum sometimes). I had a wander up to the National Portrait Gallery to see the Taylor Wessing exhibition which was quite interesting, more for the fact, that some of the winning portaits were surprisingly 'normal'. This was my first visit to the gallery since it had been renovated and whilst the space is a lot more fulfilling it would appear that there are more and more galleries where the museum has chosen to ban photography, even without flash, which is a shame.
One area where you still can take photographs is in the non-gallery areas such as the staircase which looks out over the quadrant at the rear of the museum. With all the circles this week I thought it would be good to have one shot that moved away from the theme and had a few squares in there - squaring the circle if you like... This is one of my favourite shots of the year due to the simplicity of the image and the balancing of the shadow and highlight areas.
