LAST TRAINS

Welcome to THE ESK VALLEY - a special steam train excursion.
This is the final time that steam trains will run along the whole of the Esk Valley railway line, due to timetable changes. The train has two steam locomotives – extra special.
This image was taken at Ruswarp on the return journey.

This steam special was pulled by a 1947 locomotive, ex-LNER Class B1 4-6-0, number 61264. Finally withdrawn from service in 1965, she was rescued from a scrapyard and returned to service after restoration in 1997. With another final overhaul completed in December 2012, this Thompson B1 Locomotive was moved to her new long-term home on the local North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

At the rear of this train was the LNER – London & North East Railway – locomotive 2-6-0 Class K4, number 61994 and named THE GREAT MARQUESS.
Built in 1938 at Darlington Locomotive Works to a design by the Sir Nigel Gresley, this magnificent locomotive was retired from active service in 1961.
