Trails of thought

I went to the florist after work to buy a present for my friend and colleague who turns 70 tomorrow. 70! And she's still working, full-time, on her feet all day, in a relatively physical job.

A quick poll of colleagues revealed that none of us feel able to retire until our late sixties, possibly seventies. I like my job, I like the people I work with, which is lucky, because it looks like we'll all be growing old together.

Not so great for the generation behind us, of course, who'll be waiting a long time to get their knees under our desks.
