Chicken Queen

I took a trip out to Whitmuir organic farm on Saturday with some friends of mine. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself that morning as I must admit, I had a few too many glasses of red wine the night before. I think it was good to get out and about and get some fresh country air. We had a tasty lunch in the cafe and then headed up the hill for a short hike around the farm. That's when we came across these chickens who are free range in the truest sense of the word. They had escaped the confines of the large fenced in field they were in and were busy foraging and pecking around in the earth. There were at least 30 or so outside the fence and I took quite a few pictures of them but I really enjoyed this shot. She looks very proud and magnificent as if she is looking out over her chicken kingdom! I always love being around animals, they absolutely live in the moment, something that we humans find hard to do.
