Malacleit

You had to be there to believe the colour of the sea in Vallay Strand today. this was taken from a place called Malacleit which is curiously close to Malachite - a green mineral that is very similar in colour to the green in today's blip.
The ruin you can see is Vallay House built by Erskine Beveridge at the start of the twentieth century at a cost in today's money of around £2 million. He lived there until his death in 1920 and spent a lot of his time exploring and writing about the local archaeology. He was also a pioneering photographer.
The island on which the house is built is cut off at mid tide and higher and sadly his son drowned whilst making the crossing in 1945 and the house has not been lived in since. Having been over to it, the saddest thing for me was a deserted tennis court cut into the machair just by the house - a life from a different era.
Today was such a glorious day, I will upload other images to my flickr photostream.
