William Brown RN
Today at U3A we had a most interesting talk by a man who has spent his life collecting artifacts and researching the war records of local people who served in the Boar and two World Wars.
This is part of his collection from the late daughter of William Brown RN who served in the navy throughout the Great War and afterwards. He was due to leave the navy but World War 2 broke out and he had to stay in. He was on the HMS Courageous when it was torpedoed and sunk by a U boat off the coast of Ireland with the loss of over 500 men.
In the collection were medals, letters, cards to and from his wife and much more. It's good that these things were bought and saved to preserve the history of these brave people.
