American lobster

Another New England tradition: the lobsters are in season. Today, we were invited to a lobster dinner with colleagues. As real biologists my colleagues and I spent a lot of time in the kitchen studying them, trying to determine the sex of the lobsters (there were males and females) and naming appendages. They are such beautiful animals! Having been a vegetarian for many years now, I found the whole cooking process quite sad and seeing this photo again now I feel really bad even for the few bites of lobster I've eaten! Although I must admit, it's delicious...
