Old dog, new year

I don't think Merlin can see the daffodils. This is not because he has lost his sight, but because dogs don't see flowers in the way that we humans do.
To them, it is important to have their pack around them, and a well stocked food bowl. Flowers are nowhere on the scale of importance.
We too need our families and our food, but after that we give great importance to manipulating our environment, by buying expensive plants for our gardens, or dressing up for events such as weddings that seem so special to us.
I wonder who is the happier?
