This evening I went to the cinema with my friend Virginia. The film was 'The Invisible Woman', about Charles Dickens and his mistress, Nelly Turnan. Ralph Fiennes, who played the part of Dickens, has a beautiful voice and I wondered whether Dickens did himself, as he often gave readings of his work.

When I took Virginia home, I noticed her books. The 'Pigeon English' is for her book club. The other is for her new iPad. It was this lady who persuaded me to get a kindle. I hope she won't mind me telling you that she will be 87 in May. I admire her very much for continuing to learn, to paint, and not to be afraid of technology.
