bright and shiny

A sneaky peak of an object from work...

This is part of a Georgian Mantua... The skirt part of a woman's dress from the era where the dresses were really wide as if you had massive hips... Now this is an original dated to 1751 and has been embroidered with metallic thread... normally the thread tarnishes and goes quite black, but this is astonishingly shiny... it doesn't quite seem real for it to be in such vibrant condition... but it is...

I was lucky enough to take some pictures of our textiles conservators today, and this is just a glimpse of an object that will be going on display...
