Recovery

Today was the day of Orla's dental surgery. She was very excited about going into the hospital and thoroughly enjoyed all of the pre-op stuff, apart from the fasting. When we spoke to the dentist to give our consent it became apparent that they were going to do a lot more than we had realised. As well as removing the supernumerary that had broken through her gum, they were also going to take out the adult one that was still up in her jaw. That necessitated quite intrusive surgery and some stitches. As well as that, they also took out some of her baby teeth that were falling out anyway (her wobbly front one was pulled out using just fingers apparently!), capped a couple and sealed the permanent molars that have already come through to protect them.

We weren't fully prepared for what it would be like when she woke up from the anaesthetic. Traumatic, that's what it was like. I asked her later if she could remember when she first woke up, and she said no. Thank goodness for small mercies.

But we're home, and she is in her bed sleeping. No school for the rest of the week I think and hopefully she won't be too upset when she finally gets to see what her mouth looks like now.
