Om at Zelotes
Now to the untrained eye, this might look like a very boring picture. However, closer inspection reveals that it definitely has om (‘A sacred syllable or invocation traditionally uttered at the beginning and end of prayer and meditation; also as int. Also (rare): perfection, a higher plane or state of existence’, OED). Let me explain … the closest I came to perfection today (apart from a selfie) was finding some amazing chairs for Photo Republic, and indeed that was to be today’s blog picture. However, en route to PR, I took a minor detour to get some more pix for my Bleeding London SW3 collection. I took a few of the little church on the corner of Milner St and Moore St because (a) It has an interesting name – St Simon Zelotes; (b) Architecturally, it is ‘eccentric’ (John Betjeman) and (c) om – sacred – prayer leads to a logical link with church. But it gets better … on uploading today’s bag I noticed that the sign made mention of my favourite authoress and that her daughter is giving a lecture entitled “Daphne du Maurier – a daughter’s memoire’, so I felt that this was a most pertinent example of the state of om that I shall be in tomorrow evening. Interestingly, although there is no mention of trances in the definition of the word, the examples of usage indicate that this is an integral part of om. And I’m sure I remember this from AbFab, so maybe one of my Christian Lacroix crosses would have also fitted the om bill.
Day #85 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by the OED word of the day.
