Private Willis
Head down on the computer all day, so I was ready for some relaxation tonight. Out for the evening, and for once someone else was doing the driving! Went to Greenwich Theatre with friends whose son was in a performance of Iolanthe, staged by the Centenary Company, a south London-based amateur dramatics group.
You couldn't miss M on stage. Although only 22, at 6 ft 7 he towered over everyone else. In Act 1 he played one of the soppy House of Lords peers, then in Act 2 he starred as Private Willis of the Grenadier Guards, standing sentry in a rotating Big Ben (how appropriate!) and setting Fairy hearts a-flutter.
All the cast were fabulous and received a rapturous ovation. This was the first night performance, so the audience reception will have energised them for the next few days. A fun evening and Greenwich by night is such a jolly place to be. Now feeling fortified for another long writing day tomorrow.
