Freedom fighters

In an old monastery in the Hill town of Omodos a reminder of troubled times. Photographs of dead freedom fighters who fell in battle or were executed by the British during the Cypriot war of independence. . Alongside their photographs and the names of the family members left behind (wives, children, parents and brothers and sisters) are their clothes. It is their clothes that get to me, so personal, when war is so dehumanising. This young mans clothes included a hand knitted scarf. This man was nit married so perhaps the scarf was knitted by his mother
