Wasteland

Thanks for some really great suggestions for a collective noun for tourists. There were quite a few I liked, some very appropriate ones such as a Throng and a Flock, and a Gawp or a Smile of tourists both work rather well. I really liked a Dither and a Traipse, and especially a Convergence, but the winner for me came from Owl, who cleverly suggested a Living of tourists.

I was very much aware that I was a tourist myself and certainly helped provide a living for the places at which we stayed and ate in Kerry. Yesterday’s group were a coachload and were all soon decanted into a number of horse-drawn carriages for a tour of the town, providing a living for yet another group of people. I doubt there would be much of a living for anybody here if it wasn’t for the visitors.

There was a bit of the ‘Irish’ about my tale yesterday. I couldn’t help myself! They were all stood next to their coach posing for the driver to take a group picture so while he was waiting for the stragglers to get in position I stole in and took my own shot. I hope you’re not too disappointed. It was rather lovely that you thought me capable of such feats of herding!

This image, taken on a nearby derelict site next to the canal, seems somehow appropriate for my first day back in the office. It wasn't easy.
