The world turns.
Mar 2000. The first one is a true story: I was in an auto zone and a very obviously gay man came in looking for something, and when he was out of ear shot the guy behind the counter snarked that this man "wasn't normal like us." You know I love a soapbox, so try to imagine how high I climbed to dress this idiot down.
In the second one: I had just asked Frank to marry me (took him up to Mt. Lemon, got on bended knee, it was all quite touching) so drawing this one was kind of neat. The whole marriage thing in general at the time was interesting because there was no real national discussion about it just yet, other than the gay couples I'd met who were married in name only and by choice only. I never thought it would be legal (still mostly isn't) and my position all along has been that you don't wait for the government to tell you what words to use - other than the legal side, which is significant, if I want to use the word husband and married I damned well will. And always have.
