speech meet

judged a speech tournament again today and my brother competed (5th place in Congress, nice!).

I got the usual array of really depressing stuff (the students seem to think they'll score better if they recite some really depressing poetry or depressing duo acts. i tend to prefer the funnier things, but the dramas can be good).

the awards ceremony was unusually loud; flashing lights, a drummer, some humor, then a drum cadence to bring in the announcers and team that put things together
