"I'm studying education studies. It’s quite weird, studying studying.”
“What do you see yourself doing in ten years?”
“Umm, having a family….I’m quite settled!”
It’s nearly the end of the month so I took some time to catch up on some financial admin this morning then headed into town for some lunch. After grabbing a few slices of the delicious pizza’s at Belgrave Music Hall, I spotted Katie walking across the opposite side with her big scarf. She was hesitant at first, unsure whether to say yes but agreed saying, “Go on then, I’ve got some time before I meet my mum.”
After the shoot she revealed that she was studying Education Studies, and stated that it was a little strange. She mentioned she may go into some sort of social work but wasn’t too sure yet. I didn’t expect her answer to the long term plan. She explained that her boyfriend and her were very much settled, had been together a long time and she simply saw herself having a family.
I asked for her name at some point.
“You don’t need my full name do you?”
“No, I don’t. Why, what’s your surname?”
“Thirkill, it’s quite distinctive, the spelling especially. If you put my full name then people will know me instantly. ‘Oh, it’s that Katie Thirkill, they’ll say”
She made me laugh with her last comment. I proceeded to ask her if she knew the names origin or had used those family history sites to find other ‘Thirkill’s’ - unfortunately not, so I thanked her for her precious time and let her go meet her mum.
PS. My blip-friend MrJohn has organised a blipmeet in Bradford this Sunday evening, with a curry and a trip to the Cinema to watch the street photography documentary film, Everybody Street. Details here. Come join us, it’ll be fun! :)
