He no longer smokes but has this most elaborate electronic smoking device - which looks very suspect.

He no longer smokes tobacco. He no longer smells of cigarettes. He looks better for it too. All of which must be a good thing.

He does, however, have to stand outside the pub in the cold to use it, which feels a little harsh - or is it a case of Pavlovs dog?
