St John's Kirk, Perth

This isn't a photo to do this fine old Kirk justice. It's the bell tower and the whole building is rather crowded out by the City Halls which was built very much later and whose future has provoked a great deal of local controversy.

There's a website for the church which is not the only St John's in the town. There's an Episcopal St John the Baptist and that's also the name for the main Catholic church in the town, not to mention the football team!

Onyways, the Kirk does some fine bell-ringing from that tower. While I was taking the photographs, Waltzing Matilda was pealing out across the town. No. Don't ask. I've no idea why!! It felt a bit apt given my upbringing in Oz :-)
