What You Will
Three weeks ago I sang the praises of the Bistro at the new Everyman theatre and anticipated my first glimpse of the theatre auditorium itself. Well, tonight was the night that Spokes and I finally saw it - and loved it! What a great space it is - retaining the shape, feel and thrust stage of the old theatre but somehow much more spacious/airy and looking fabulous. It was very comfortable too, which was good because the opening production, Twelfth Night, was long!
I think Michael Billington's review in The Guardian is a pretty fair one. The cast were fantastic, the opening coup de théâtre was unexpected and the pace seemed to pick up as it went along but it could've done with being trimmed a bit. I was really glad to have seen it though!
We hung around for a little while after the performance, despite the late hour, to enjoy the building some more and I took this shot in the bar area looking through the windows out onto Hope Street.
