One Street Beyond

I have blipped this part of Baltimore Avenue several times, but from the opposite direction. Fifty-First Street is one block west of where the revival or gentrification has gone. Attempts by small entrepreneurs to revive this block have been mixed. There is an interesting gift shop that seems to do OK, but other new shops have been blocked by big developers who now want the land, or by our famously corrupt building inspectors.

In order for an avenue like this to be completely alive requires that it be mostly occupied, clean and safe for at least ten years, to continue thriving from there. This corner is where little has been done since the empty buildings, well beyond repairing, were torn down some fifteen years ago.
