Pure and Simple?

Narcissus bulbocodium

I've shown a few of the so-called Hoop-Petticoat narcissus over the winter. All belong to Section Bulbocodium in the genus. Todays is Narcissus bulbocodium which gives the section it's name. Is it pure and simple? Well, no .... there are lots of different forms. This is pretty much bog-standard, I also blipped Narcissus bulbocodium ssp nivalis which is about half the size of this one.

Find the right place and they do OK in the open garden, like this one. I can't say with certainty what is the right place, mine have been successful in various places but I've also had a few disappear on me! Plenty of moisture in the growing season is good and as with most hardy bulbs a drier summer also suits.
