Holcombe Old Church

St Andrew’s Church lies a mile from the village of Holcombe, down a farm track. The original medieval village was buried at the time of the plague and it is believed that the rhyme “Ring a Ring o’ Roses” began there as a result - and one of the pubs in Holcombe was traditionally called that (but it has since changed its name). Although the church is redundant and in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, services are still held there four times a year.

This grave commemorates the drowning of five children (2 sets of siblings) from the village in an icy pond in 1899.
