Sick With Sport Relief
Sports Relief day at work today. There were two options, the Watt Bike Challenge and buying cake. I chose the latter but wished that I'd chosen the former as it would have made me feel less sick. A bit peanut butter and chocolate cake plus an iced red velvet cake plus normal lunch had me sweating and suffering from a real sugar rush! Honestly, I nearly had to ask to go home ill. Fortunately, being asked to do a bit of manual labour helped dramatically. I did an additional bit by making coffee at £1.50 a cup for some wonderful Steampunk Peruvian using my aeropress.
After work I headed off to Piccadilly to get the train up to Oxenholme where I was meeting Rosemary. We had a wedding on the Saturday so were making the weekend of it. The cycle to Patten Bridge, where our B&B was, proved to be a challenge fully laden with our rucksacks. The roads are extremely hilly and at one stage it started to rain very heavily. As a seasoned adventure racer, R coped better than I. With a bright head torch shining on the rain, I basically couldn't see 5 feet in front of me, not so good on steep roads!
We got close to the B&B but couldn't find it......but after a quick call, we were soon tucked up in front of a wood burning stove in a lovely converted barn room! Bed followed shortly afterwards.
