Nelson Mandela Sculpture

We spent an afternoon wandering around central London today. As we left the South Bank to head towards the tube at Waterloo, we passed this magnificent head and shoulders brass sculpture of Nelson Mandela. Despite being fairly familiar with this part of London, I was until today unaware of the sculpture. It's by Ian Walters and has been in place since 1985, although the original glass-fibre piece was repeatedly vandalised and was subsequently re-cast in bronze. That's kind of sad.
