Earth Hour

Earth Hour ! although this poster on the door of an ice cream parlour in La Marsa advertises this event no lights were switched off from 8.30 to 9.30 and earlier on that evening when I had asked the woman of the ice cream parlour if she was going to switch off the lights at 8.30 she simply seemed bemused. So why was the poster there?

I bumped into a couple of Tunisian men at Jimmy's Cafe; one of them used to be one of my students and the other man was his friend. Anyway after my ex-student had explained what 'Earth Hour ' was ; he simply said ' We don't care ' which basically sums up quite a few Tunisians ' attitude to the environment which probably accounts for the many dirty beaches and litter-strewn streets especially at the weekends and during the holidays!
