March Challenge: Day 28 ......

Lentic.

Adjective meaning: Relating to, or living in still waters.

It has rained most of today so I was hoping to get a picture of a nice reflection in a lentic rain puddle. Unfortunately, by the time I got out of work it had stopped raining and there were no puddles to be found.

So after work I headed to Illicks Mill park to get a photo of the ducks in the lentic waters. I had never before seen the duck pictured here. We are pretty sure it's a Cayuga duck, which is a medium-class domesticated duck breed that has been a popular variety in the USA since the mid-19th century. The Cayuga duck is listed as “Threatened” on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy’s Conservation Priority List. This means there are fewer than 1,000 breeding birds in the US, with ten or fewer primary breeding flocks, and they are globally endangered. There were several pairs at the park today.
