Lambing Live!
What a stunning spring day. Perfect for a day out.
Jenny & I stopped for a lovely pub lunch at The Rainbow Inn at Cooksbridge - ma-ooh-ssive burgers all round! Once stuffed, we made our way to Offham Farm Shop just down the road, to see the sheep & their new-born lambs.
It was stinky, but then it was a farm & there were pigs too. On this their first day of the season of opening their gates to visitors, there were plenty of bouncing & dough-eyed lambs to see. Some were quite energetic, others were docile & out for the count. We did see one lamb prevented from getting to milk by it's mother, & so small, needy & bleating, it was rescued & soon bottle fed. We were also quite fortunate (if that is the word, I'm not sure if she'd see it that way) enough to see a mother in labour, & with a small crowd watching every trot & star-gaze, the sheep delivered a lamb in the stable right in front of us. Wow! Yellow & *lots of other icky descriptive words*, the little lamb was soon blinking away trying to grasp what the heck had just happened. Unbeknownst to the rest of us, the sheep was expecting another, & with a little help from the farmer's daughter (up to her elbow she was!), a second lamb was pulled into the world to join their sibling. Double whammy!
It was incredible to see & such a fun way to spend the day. Jen & I got a hold a little one too before we left. He was so sweet & so happy to just sit in our arms & count sheep. Good Lamby!
