Mother’s Day
Whose bright idea was it to alter the clocks twice a year? What a ridiculous thing to do in this day and age, we’re constantly out of step with Europe, who are in the same time zone and it not only messes up sleep patterns but throws insulin regimes, such as Dylan is on, which need a strict twelve hours between shots.
Anyway today is Mother’s Day, pubs have been fully booked for weeks, it seems like it’s the only time mothers are taken out for a meal, shame. We never worried too much about Mother’s Day as I was growing up. It always fell close to my mother’s birthday in March and it was considered a racket invented by the Americans (see here) to sell yet more greetings cards such as on Valentine and Father’s Day. After all, mothers should be considered all the year round for the grand job they have to do in life; and it’s a poignant reminder for those of us who have lost their mothers.
Having said all that Emma is a sweetie when it comes to things like that and she met us for coffee and bought Ann a nice card. I took their photo by the canal basin for the occasion.
