Mothering Sunday

A glorious day of warm air, blue sky and sunshine ! Took my 20 posies to church today to add to the others collected for distribution to all the women at our Mothering Sunday service. Over to Mum and Dads for lunch, too much wine and a nap then back home for a cup of tea and a gossip with a friend.

For many years our church - well the Mothers Union - in Uplyme, East Devon would pick bunches and bunches of Primroses prior to Mothering Sunday, box them up then on the Saturday before the day, our old vicar would travel three hours up to London by train to meet the vicar of a church in Bermondsey, South London on Waterloo station hand over the box of Primroses then get back on the train and come all the way home again. A flower that we had in abundance down here was a rare sight in London in those days !
