Diary of an Edinburgher

Hidden Doors

We have the haar still. It tends to hang around for days, while the rest of the country is basking in nice weather. Atmospheric. But miserable.

After a lazy morning with the papers (on iPads) and the morning TV, we wandered down for a look at the Hidden Door Festival. I imagine it’s really jumping in the evening when the bands are on and the pub vaults are in full swing, but it was quite subdued this afternoon... The first vaults were high ceiling-ed and quite big, and a couple had been used as a bar area leading through to a stage with drums already set up. If we’d been 40 years younger we would have stayed! As they got to the other end, the cellars were smaller and lower and had wee individual art exhibitions on. Some pretentious, some plain silly, but all of them worth a look… This shot is in one of them - the best thing to admire here was obviously the nicely dressed young man.

Popped to the City Art Gallery for lunch. My chips were not quite done in the middle, but they brought me another bowlful. Also saw the exhibition featuring hundreds of bottles of water from different oceans in the world, as in Beachcomber149’s blip the other day.

We made use of the Scotsman Steps - up and down - a glorious collection of different marbles and such an improvement on the hell-hole it used to be. However, they could keep it cleaner. People who drop litter on the pavement are one thing, but people who drop litter on a work of art are beyond the pale.

A few hiccups re the puppy… But all sorted and on track! A busy week coming up.

Hope I have time for ping pong!
