Saturday Market

A chilly day with showers which is a bit of a shock to the system! We mooched around the Saturday market where, despite the weather, most of the stalls were outside, this indoor one is a daily one where as well as fruit and vegetables they sell fish, cheese, meat and bread.

Folk had come from miles around, mainly selling oranges and broad beans, which were obviously the main crop at the moment. Lots of stalls selling seedling vegetable plants too, trays and trays of them, peppers, tomatoes and brassicas mainly, but I decided to wait till I get home before I buy any!

In the evening we drove back into the town to hear some Fado singing by a very striking girl, accompanied by two guys playing Portuguese and Spanish guitars. She had the most amazing voice and attitude, it was a terrific experience. A small restaurant, excellent meal and wonderful music, the whole atmosphere of the place enhanced by a log burning stove in the middle of the room as it is still officially winter here! At one point a little cat slipped in and curled up underneath the stove where it slept until the last number when it uncurled itself, stretched and slipped away, back out into the night!

Sorry I don't have time to comment at the moment, but I will try and catch up when we get home!
