Eilean Glas (Scalpay) lighthouse

I woke up to a lovely day and, as Michael was going to play golf, I decided to take myself off somewhere I've not been before. Eilean Glas lighthouse had been on my list of places to visit for a while so that was where I went. Initially I was going to go on my own, but poor Queequeg was so convinced she was coming with me and so excited, then so disappointed when I got in the car without her, that I gave in and took her along despite me thinking she'd tire quickly.

I knew the lighthouse had recently had a new path built out to it that made it a lot easier to get to, so did I take that path? No, I inadvertently ended up taking the old coastal trail, which was quite hard going (indistinct, constant up and down and very boggy in places). The views were lovely though and I kept getting glimpses of the top of the lighthouse getting closer and closer, so I knew I was on sort of the right path.

We eventually made it and I really enjoyed the walk (and Queequeg loved every minute too, she's like mountain goat despite being nearly 10 and having very short legs!). The setting for the lighthouse is just stunning. It's a shame the surrounding buildings have been abandoned, hopefully someone will do something with them now access is easier on the new path over the moorland... which I was thankfully directed to for the way back by a very helpful couple from Scalpay who had walked out that way!

So off we went back to the car on the lovely newly laid path which took us half the time and half the effort! I'm glad we did the circular route though as both paths were so different. Queequeg did start to tire towards the end, but nowhere near as much as I'd expected, especially as we did over 6 miles. I wouldn't want to take her any further than that though.

So all in all a great afternoon; a welcome wrong path and some time spent in the spring sunshine with number one dog :)

Here is another photograph from the day, I was going to use this one, but wanted one with Queequeg in it for my blip.
