A Peep Thru the Pinhole

The Tunnel

This bizarre area is just on the outskirts of a part of the city of Nottingham known as The Park. It's essentially a posh residential area. We went here to check out a Geocache (www.geocaching.com refers) adjacent to the spot from where this image was taken. The geocache owner describes the location thus:

"The Park Tunnel was built in 1855 through the sandstone to allow horsedrawn carriages access to the The Park Estate from Derby Road in Nottingham. Although upon completion it was found that the gradient of the tunnel was too steep for the horse drawn carriages to manage."

So there you have it - a potted history. And this is the thing with the activity of Geocaching, that it can take you to some interesting places.
