World War 1, railway wagon, Hooge Crater
This trench railway wagon from WW1 is to be found at the Museum at the Hooge Crater on the Menin Road east of Ypres.
This area was fought over many times with both British and Germans exploding mines and the Germans using flame throwers against the British for the first time in 1915.
Trench railways were used to bring up supplies and shells for the guns.
This wagon is of basic manufacture and includes a hook coupling and wooden block buffers.
