Kind of like a 'Pinterest Fail'
In our attempt to try a new experience and visit Vancouver rather than our familiar hot spots we unexpectedly set ourselves up for a disastrous little birthday getaway. In fact, from the moment we entered the country of Canada, our day was full of disappointments EXCEPT for this delicious combination of cold IPA's and warm fresh baked donut holes (in the bag) . . . who would've thought! Hence this picture of my handsome date and our snack at Chill Winston in Gastown. From here on, however, more downhill, so we did everything we could to salvage the rest of our day and retreated as fast as our GPS could take us back out of the country (which wasn't very fast at all) and into our safe haven of Bellingham.
Pit stop at a new pub called The Local to try to formulate Plan B, or C, or D. . . whichever we were on at this point. Still no idea on what to do to try and make the day special so Isaac drove to Boulevard Park and suggested we watch the sunset like we used to do in college. A couple coffees and a huge cinnamon roll at Woods helped spark an idea that we try to get a room at The Chrysalis, a cute little boutique Inn and Spa on the water just up the road. Last time we stayed there I was 8 months pregnant with little man.
7:30pm and we were told they only had one room left and it was one with two double size beds. Ha! We can cozy up. Only one more glitch in the evening when we realized I had left my phone at the coffee shop in the park. Thankfully, a woman found it, answered it and left it with an employee for Isaac to run back and pick up. From here on out, the night was perfect. Had an incredible dinner and dessert at the restaurant in the hotel and spent an awesome evening together at a place that has so many good memories for us. We laughed when we thought about how we had to drive hundreds of miles out of the way (out of the country) just to find ourselves at the perfect place, only 45 min from our home. We're "making memories" is what we say as a joke every time we have experiences like ours today. This one definitely won't be erased from the memory anytime too soon. ;) Here are a few pictures that I took throughout the day just in case my memory starts to fail me in my old age.
