Deckhands
And this evening the docks were far busier. A container ship was being loaded so there was a lot of whining bleeping growling heavy machinery in evidence and those large dock-handler forklifts darting about like scorpions. My initial instinct was to avoid that end of the dock and I drove to the quiet silos to sit and orientate myself. I entered one of the deserted grain warehouses again, but I'd been there before too often: nothing new. So I drove to the busy end, my eyes out on stalks among the giant Meccano cranes and Lego containers. I found a quiet corner and took stock. Then I noticed the guys on this fishing boat dropping a bucket over the rail and watching, trying to gauge something. A quiet human activity among all the monster machines, a different corner of the universe.
