Inside an 'aljibe'
There is no water in it now, but at the time the Arabs lived in Granada these huge cisterns or water tanks provided with water the inhabitants of the city.
Water was brought through a system of acequias (channels) from the head of the rivers or fountains near the city.
This 'Aljibe del Rey' that I have visited today could hold 300,000 litres, enough for the Palace of the King and the people in the surrounding districts.
Today these water tanks are still in good conditions and some of them can be visited in the Albaicin
