View from my Front Door
Today only involved replacing yet ANOTHER phone after failing to save one I dropped in water, and some other necessary shopping. I actually can't believe I've had three phones in the two weeks I have been here - I have to laugh about it!
Since my day wasn't very interesting I've decided to write about some of my observations / experiences since I've been here.
1) Hills and stairs are everywhere - I'm going to have some killer leg muscles by the time I leave.
2) "You alright?" is the most common greeting, but it is just that, a greeting, in no way does the asker actually want to know if you are alright.
3) People eat beans a lot. I don't know if it was just the area I was in but I was eating at a cafe/diner for lunch the other day and I was literally the only person who didn't have beans on my plate.
4) Alcohol is incredibly cheap when bought at the large supermarkets - I'm talking £8 for 10 x 500ml cans of cider, or £15 for a 1.5L bottle of vodka. It's crazy, and awesome.
5) People actually do drink every night of the week as if it's the weekend. And not just young people - there's plenty of 40+ years olds out having a few pints and a laugh.
6) The change situation is out of control - I know this comes from not having been in the country for long but they have 1,2,5,10,20 & 50 pence coins as well as 1 & 2 pound AND they are not sized according to value. I accumulated over £12 in coins before I bothered to use them.
That's all thats coming to mind at the moment, I'm sure there'll be others!
Happy Blipping :)
