My head hurts ...
The Sparrowhawk came through again this afternoon, and this little chap, a Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) hit our window hard and ended up head-first in the pyracantha bushes below it. I went out and all I could see was the tip of his tail poking out of the bush so I very gently pulled him out. He was still breathing, and his eyes were open so although he was very floppy I rested him on the sill and left him there. After about 20 minutes, he had lifted his head and shuffled backwards onto the hedge, where he stayed for about another 15 minutes before flying off into the cherry tree, and from there onto one of the seed feeders.
